Maria Farmer was one of the first known victims to report Epstein to the FBI, in 1996. She gave a sworn declaration describing abuse at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse and at Les Wexner’s Ohio estate. Her sister Annie later testified at the Maxwell trial.

Transcript

Maria Farmer declared under oath that she was an art student in her twenties when she met Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell in 1995 at an art gallery opening in New York. Epstein and Maxwell offered to help her career and gave her a job managing artwork at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse on East 71st Street.

During the summer of 1996, while working at the townhouse, Epstein and Maxwell sexually assaulted Maria. She described Maxwell holding her down while Epstein assaulted her. Maria stated that she was terrified and felt there was no escape from the residence.

Shortly afterward, Maxwell arranged for Maria to stay at Les Wexner’s compound in New Albany, Ohio, purportedly to work on an art installation. While there, Maria stated she felt trapped on the gated estate and was sexually assaulted again. She described the property as heavily secured with security guards who she believed were monitoring her.

Maria reported the abuse to the FBI and to the New York Police Department in 1996. She stated that the FBI took her report but no investigation followed. She described feeling abandoned by law enforcement and disbelieved by the institutions she turned to for help.

Maria declared that after her report, she was intimidated and surveilled. She believed Epstein used his resources and connections to discredit her and block any investigation. She described years of fear, anxiety, and isolation as a result.

Maria’s report in 1996 is one of the earliest known complaints to law enforcement about Epstein. Her declaration detailed the roles of both Maxwell and Wexner’s property in the abuse, and she expressed anguish that her early warning was ignored for over two decades.
