Biography
Leslie Wexner, founder and longtime CEO of L Brands, maintained the longest and most financially significant relationship with Jeffrey Epstein of any known associate. Their connection, which began in the mid-1980s, granted Epstein access to extraordinary wealth and an aura of legitimacy that he leveraged for decades.
Wexner granted Epstein sweeping power of attorney over his finances — an almost unprecedented level of trust that gave Epstein control over billions in assets. Through this arrangement, Epstein managed Wexner's investments, real estate transactions, tax planning, and philanthropic activities. The 9 East 71st Street Manhattan townhouse — one of the largest private residences in New York — was transferred from Wexner to Epstein for what was reportedly a nominal sum, though the exact terms remain disputed.
The nature of their relationship and why Wexner entrusted so much to Epstein has never been fully explained. In 2019, after Epstein's arrest, Wexner publicly stated that Epstein had "misappropriated vast sums of money" from him, though he did not provide specifics or file charges. Wexner stated he severed the relationship around 2007.
Civil litigation, including the USVI lawsuit filed by Attorney General Denise George and the JPMorgan settlement, revealed financial flows between Wexner, Epstein, and various entities. The USVI case alleged Epstein used complex trust structures and corporate entities to manage and obscure the sources and uses of funds. Wexner's 13 documented appearances on Epstein's flight logs confirm travel on Epstein's aircraft.
